Returned last week on a sunny day to sit outside and try their Fit Menu. Ordered the garlic & herb marinated steak skewer for my app, and the simply grilled salmon for my main, substituting the brown rice for a baked potato. The three skewers were perfect in flavor, doneness, tenderness and char. The salmon was moist, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Portion size just right. The green beans were undercooked so I took them home to cook later, and the potato was a tad dry but that's more due to eating it without all the fun stuff when you load them up.
My partner enjoyed both the red sangria and the white with his app and main. Each have Curacao, agave nectar, fresh lemon and pineapple juice, a fruit purée and a hard alcohol mixed in with the wine. The red has dark rum and the white has blueberry vodka along with champagne. Tasting the two sangrias, I prefer the white.
The buffalo chicken eggrolls were impressive. Shredded chicken blended with cheese puts a creamy interior into their crispy fried shell. The serving is big and could easily be shared by two or three people. The Seafood Paella with shrimp, mussels, clams and calamari on yellow rice was hearty, balanced and well-cooked. A nice meal. We did think it could use a little more broth, however. Maggie's has a big menu but we appreciate this as there is so much to choose from and enjoy each visit. If you haven't been here yet, look it over online before you come dine for an idea of what to order. Happy hour is 4-7 Monday - Thursday.
Maggie McFly's to me has always been a place that serves everything you want to eat but shouldn't - perhaps their marketing people realized this, too, so our visit the other day included a Fit Menu, which listed with each menu item not only calories, but carbs, protein and total fat per serving. Love this idea!
For the moment, we hadn't eaten all day and agreed to do this in the future. We chose to sit outdoors on this sunny spring day and ordered two cocktails, a Negroni and the Sazerac, an app of steamed edamame, three combo tacos and the Dim Sum platter.
Edamame was perfectly cooked - steamed and hot with the right amount of sea salt on top served over bibb lettuce. The standout taco was the pulled pork. Tastes just like a fine carnitas. The ahi tuna was overwhelmed by the shredded cabbage (though it seemed like jícama) and there were only two shrimp in the camarones; accompanying sides of charred chickpea quinoa corn salad and yellow rice were delightful, though both don't need to include corn, as some people can't eat this vegetable.
The Dim Sum combination had two moist and flavorful Korean BBQ ribs, six well-cooked chicken potstickers, two chicken skewers, and four slices of spring rolls. This dish is served with two dipping sauces: garlic soy and Thai peanut. Everything was very good.
This is a big stand alone restaurant that has two levels of seating, a bar in the center of the first floor and plenty of designed decorations to visually entertain their patrons, like hanging airplanes from their high wood ceiling and vintage posters. At night there's no missing it as it's lit up like a white Christmas tree.
We stopped in for a late snack and coffee just before 11 p.m. when their kitchen closes. The bar bites menu has a variety of choices for five, six or seven dollars each. We chose the truffle fries and the trendy Philly cheese steak egg rolls. The only hot coffee they had left was decaf which was fine with us. Both the fries and the egg roll were well-prepared and warm. My partner has eaten here often meeting friends and says all their meals were...
Read moreI never leave reviews because every has bad days, but I’ve been coming here for years and yesterday, my first Mother’s Day, was probably the worst experience at a restaurant I’ve ever had. And I’m very patient and understanding of holidays and being busy and chaotic. My family, a group of about 10, made reservations for Mother’s Day for 2 o’clock. We get there on time and we are told we need to wait for our table because a group is finishing up..ok no problem. 15-20 minutes go by. We ask okay any idea what’s going on? Still have to wait….okay.. we wait and wait another 15-20 minutes. We’re like okay. Seriously what’s going on here. We have a man with a cane, a woman with a messed up ankle and calf in a brace, standing out side, and I have a 9 month old baby with me. We’re told our apps are going to be free but we still need to wait.. so we wait again. At this point it’s been an hour now so we decide to sit outside. Which wouldn’t have been that big of a deal but it was a little cold and cloudy outside this day and we weren’t prepared to sit outside. THEN the group leaves and we get seated. Then we get water but then have to wait 30 minutes just get some drinks and apps ordered? By the time those came out I was getting worried that my baby was going to start needing a bottle soon so we really didn’t have time to sit and wait for a whole meal to come out and eat and pay because we’ve been here and hour and a half already. Sure you can argue I should have a bottle with me but I didn’t think that with reservations I was going to have to wait an hour and a half just to be seated and eat appetizers let alone a meal. I thought we would be done and leaving at 1 1/2 -2 hours max. So I had maybe a few bites of foods and one drink and decided it’s just best that we leave. Then go to the bathroom to try to change my baby..and of course no changing table, and there’s not even room on the floor or anywhere if I were to lay something down. So I’m like ya okay let’s just go this is insane a family resturaunt doesn’t have changing tables, but they have high chairs lol. We left before the feast of the party so I think and hope that any other meals that were order were comped because that was horrible. Idc if a group is refusing to leave. You have the private property, if one person is refusing to leave your property, you can call the cops to have the escorted out. It’s incredibly rude to make a whole group that had reservations way ahead of time wait just because some selfish people who were not even eating anymore don’t want to leave. Waste of time. The only reason I have the service 2 stars was because the waiter we had was good and was trying very hard to make us happy, it’s ultimately the managers fault for not using authority over the situation and putting their foot down. That being said. If your coming here for a basic breakfast lunch or dinner. It’s a good place. But be very forewarned if you make reservations for holidays, that your time and money may not...

Called in advance for dinner for 8. All parties arrived separately, gave the name for the table and they seated us at two separate tables, not even on the same floor. What's the point of giving the name for a reservation if they don't even seat you together? Took almost an hour of everyone sitting there before we realized the rest of the party should have been there at this point. My 80 year old GRANDPARENTS were left alone upstairs for almost an hour before we were able to contact them since they don't look at their phones all the time.
Onto the service: they did not give us enough napkin rolls with the utensils inside. We had to ask twice for extra utensils which NEVER ARRIVED! My friend's food arrived cold, along with the entire table next to us who also complained about their food being cold. One side arrived with a long HAIR in the bowl. They forgot to bring a side for one of the meals as well. We had mentioned this to the server Samantha. She said she would bring out the side and new chicken for my friend's salad. We did not see our server again until well after everyone finished eating. At this point we reminded her of the food missing. She said she would ask her manager to comp the food and asked if we wanted dessert. At this point, the entire party had been there for nearly 3 hours. Only two people ordered dessert. After another 20-25 minutes we had to go looking for our server to ask where our one bowl of ice cream and one milkshake was.
This was also a birthday dinner and the server ignored this, and a party guest had to mention quite obviously "we have a birthday girl here" before they brought a complimentary bowl of ice cream.
The server then says, "one check?" when I had specifically called in advance and asked for separate checks for each couple.
One party guest went to speak to the manager who never showed her face to apologize for the terrible service, seating the party guests on different floors, cold food, hair in food, etc. The manager got defensive and argumentative before finally ending up taking about $40 off the bill for the food that never arrived.
In total, our party was there for over 3 hours. We go to Maggie's for birthdays and celebrations multiple times a year. Tonights dinner at the Middlebury location is by far the worst experience we have ever had and we will not be returning. Time to find a new place...
